The Best Living Proof

Again from Brad Blanton’s brilliant Radical Honesty:

All illnesses, whether psychological or physical, are stress-related. . .  As I have worked with people under stress over the years, I have become more interested in life-management on the physical and immediate level, and less interested in the intricacies of deep psychological meaning. It is through this interest that I have discovered the practical value of telling the truth.”

And then he relates a brief description of a psychiatrist Blanton once was mentored by, then had in therapy.

He was “without a doubt a genius” and was “great to talk to” but he was “a pathetically miserable son-of-a-bitch and the best living proof I’ve seen that our minds’ attempts to finally solve life’s meaning are in no way related to the good life.”

Finally, “He didn’t understand what anyone’s grandmother could have told him: if you take care of your physical health, you do better. And if you don’t, no matter how smart you are, you won’t be very happy.”

Health is the first manifestation of Wealth.

The Secret Of the Good Life

“The secret of the good life is not suffocating in the mind’s bullshit. Bullshit is like heroin . . . it feels so good and protected and safe and warm that even if you do choke on your own puke, you don’t mind so much. The alternative, freedom, is often too terrifying for a mind to tolerate, so the mind hides from freedom behind piles of bullshit, under blankets of evaluation, in a bed of memories. Describing what is true ruins the escape from freedom that being lost in the mind offers. Descriptive words come out of beings who are in charge of their minds. Evaluative language comes out of minds in charge of being. People who speak simply and clearly have chosen freedom over the escape into the illusion of security.”           ~ Brad Blanton Ph D, author of Radical Honesty

Full Disclosure: In 1992 I was accepted by Fordham University into its Masters program in Clinical Psychotherapy but chose not to take that fork in the road.

Now I am engaged in a pursuit of a different sort in which human behavior and personal triumph is front and center, namely Network Marketing. When I took this particular fork in the road to enter this arena I thought I was turning away from pyschology.

Ah, the Force of Destiny or La Forza del Destino! as the Italians would say.

Back to Dr. Blanton’s book Radical Honesty.  As explained by the author the root of the word radical is the Latin radix, which means root. So the honesty he calls for is ‘root honesty’, the deepest honesty to be found in a person’s being. Only by facing that deepest truth can any one of us be truly free.

Yet so much of humanity is terrified by and of freedom, so terrified that they have surrendered themselves to authorities of every stripe. In particular, so many who say they are attracted to the appeal of freedom and have claimed that they are pursuing freedom using Network Marketing as their vehicle toward that end, undermine themselves by being mired in the bullshit of their minds.

I have met the enemy and he is me!

To Be or Not To Be.

In 2008 at the first Networking convention I had ever attended I heard a very accomplished presidential level young woman tell the audience that “this business will challenge every weakness you have.”

And so it has. And so it will.

On Saturday May 14, 2011 this was the very topic of a training call offered by Richard Dennis of Mentoring For Free.

Here is the link. I am sure you will enjoy his call,  Leaders Take ACTION.

To Be or Not To Be indeed.

“How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg?”

“Four. Calling a tail a leg doesn’t make it a leg.” So says the lanky Illinoisan Abe Lincoln.

And so, calling a pyramid scheme a business doesn’t make it a business.

What’s that? You don’t know how to tell the difference between a scam and a business?

Well, here’s the simplest way. If all the money and rewards go in only one direction, that is UP and away from you, you are in some kind of pyramid or Ponzi scheme.

When you are READILY rewarded for work you have done, other than one-time recruiting bonuses, you are in a legitimate business.

Nothing teaches like experience!

For the serious inquirers, my mentors Bob and Anna Bassett from Leith, Ontario have a series of articles on their blog that fills in with much more detail. They have been in the industry for 10 years and are not ashamed to say they have “made every mistake possible” in the network marketing arena, paving the way for their current success.

Here’s the link to their informative site and their article How To Spot An Illegal Pyramid Scam

Why Do I Do MentoringForFree For Free?

The short answer is: It Doesn’t Work Any Other Way.

I get this question all the time and I don’t blame the person asking it. We live in a time and an economy that absolutely deserves this question to be asked. Nothing wrong with healthy skepticism.

A good question requires a good answer: It doesn’t work any other way because if not this way I couldn’t begin to talk with those who are searching for answers and help in their struggles with their business.

People download the eBook SUCCESS IN 10 STEPS looking for something. However the last thing, the very last thing they want is me fire-hosing them with what I want. So the center piece of our conversation following the download has to be this: “What were you looking for when you decided to take advantage of your free copy?”

If I start talking about my life, my company, my opportunity, my product, my pay plan, how’s that gonna go?

Haven’t we all had enough of what the other person wants?

It has to be for free and it has to be a ‘No Selling Zone” if anything is going to get done, if any relationship is going to be created.

It has to be Pressure-Free or I won’t do it. Because I don’t look for pressure or stress.

That’s one habit I have completely and successfully kicked.

Gandhi on Government

Government control gives rise to fraud, suppression of Truth, intensification of the black market and artificial scarcity.  Above all, it unmans the people and deprives them of initiative, it undoes the teaching of self-help…I look upon an increase in the power of the State with the greatest fear because, although while apparently doing good by minimizing exploitation, it does the greatest harm to mankind by destroying individuality which lies at the heart of all progress… We find the general work of mankind is being carried on from day to day by the mass of people acting as if by instinct….If they were instinctively violent the world would end in no time…It is when the mass mind is unnaturally influenced by wicked men that the mass of mankind commits violence.  But they forget it as they commit it because they return to their peaceful nature immediately the evil influence of the directing mind has been removed.

Lincoln On Economics: A Guest Blogger

“You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
You cannot further brotherhoold of man by encouraging class hatred.
You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.
You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away men’s initiative and independence.
You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.”
— Abraham Lincoln
