Many a pitched verbal battle was fought between me and the nitwits perched like vultures in a dead tree over at Better Networker (They never DID reveal Better for whom!)
The topic was this: MLM is not a sales business but a relationship business primarily.
Sure sales must happen or there’s no revenue and then no paychecks for us distributors. But if you approach your business with a traditional sales skill set, you may get a quick hit of cash but you WON’T build a business designed to keep paying you long into the future.
So all that schreeching I got from those vultures at Better Networker revealed their philosophy and intent after all.

The Real Skills You Need

As I do my training, the most requested topic is always recruiting. But that is not the most important skill set you need for success in Network Marketing.
The most important thing is people skills.
Your biggest issues won’t be product related, your comp plan, or the marketing materials. It won’t even be product recalls, back orders or negative publicity.
It will be ego clashes, marriage problems, communication misunderstandings, and out of check egos. It will be discord between relationships between you and your team, or between your leaders and their teams.
So make sure you make working on these skills a big part of your self-development program. Books like Dale Carnegie, The Five Love Languages, keeping your ego in check, and being willing to apologize will do more to grow your group than just about anything else.
People come into our business with all sorts of baggage. Most have never been in business for themselves. Many have never had leadership positions. So there’s a lot to learn for both you and them.
Make a point to get better at this and it will really make a difference for you.

Was Gandhi Liberal Or Conservative?
First let’s look at the classic definitions of the two.
A Liberal believes in changing society in order to change individuals.
A Conservative believes in changing individuals in order to change society.
Now, was Gandhi a Liberal or a Conservative? Let him tell you:

The WORLD’S a Mess? No, YOU’RE A Mess!
Everyone’s buzzing about the Casey Anthony case. It is one of those social/media events that sort of mark time.
Personally I know nothing about this at all. No kidding. My life is too full to be wasting it on things that are not going to impact it and the lives of those I love.
Harsh?
Get over it. Rather, Get Responsible.
The only reason the Anthony case came before my eyes was that it was mentioned in a brutally honest article in last Sunday’s paper.
Maureen Callahan in the New York Post wrote SEE NO EVIL – A Nation Where No One Is Held Responsible And No One Takes Responsibility.

In it she blasts the fact that three Deutsche Bank defendants, two NYC police officers, and of course Casey Anthony, all went free despite damning evidence in all three cases.
Somewhere toward the end she quotes Marcia Clark. Perhaps you remember Ms. Clark. She was in all the papers, all over the net and TV. I didn’t because I didn’t follow the O J Simpson trial. Another waste of my time.
However, Ms. Callahan reports that Ms. Clark said the following:
“I don’t want to say juries are getting dumber, because I don’t want to believe it. But when Jennifer Ford (that’s juror #3 for those like me who didn’t follow this fiasco) said, ‘It’s not for us to connect the dots’ – it absolutely is! That is the jury’s job.”
AND RESPONSIBILITY!
OK, so you think the world’s going south in a hand basket. Here’s what you can do about it.
Be Accountable.
Be Responsible.
Keep your word.
That is so simple a kindergarten 5-year old can do it.
We might be better off if they ran things.

Certain Prospects

Let me share something quite shocking with you. You want to know who the very best prospects are? The ones that are certain to join sooner or later?
People who have quit before.
And no matter how bad their experience was. Could be they had a lousy sponsor. Their company ran out of money and stiffed them on their last bonus check. The government closed them down because they weren’t a legitimate Network Marketing company. Even if they bought $50,000 worth of water filters – which are still gathering dust in their garage.
They always come back.
Here’s why: The thing that brought them in in the first place is still there: the dream. Now it may get submerged for a while and usually does. When people face a setback they often pull back into their shell and go into existence mode.
But just as when people get a taste of freedom they can’t be held down, the same thing happens for dreams. At some point they will find the courage to go after them again.
And if you’re the person there with the vehicle to make it happen, BINGO! It may take two months, it may take two years, it may take ten.
But they always come back.
Remember this: When someone joins Network Marketing once, something is awakened inside them. And the only thing that gets it out of their system is embalming fluid.

A Healthy Body, A Wealthy Mind

So it is fair to say: Health is to Body as Wealth is to Mind.
Yet if most people (alright I’m being optimistic) know what they feed their Bodies, fewer know what they feed their Minds.
What’s your Mental diet like? And do you see the connection with whatever level of success you are enjoying?
Or envying?
“Why MLM?” – Once again.
This is the question I get repeatedly.
“Why are you in an MLM company?”
And my answer is basically the same with slight variations: to own my life by controling what I do and how much I’m paid for doing it, all resulting in living my dream.
Yesterday I got a piece of so called “junk” mail promoting a newsletter. Although the newsletter has nothing to do with Network Marketing, the opening paragraph of that sales letter is worth repeating here as an answer to “Why MLM?”:
“Who are YOU relying on to secure your future — your financial advisor? An employer? A family member?
The government? The fact is there’s really no one left you can or should rely on . . . except yourself.”
That’s why MLM.

It Is All About the Residual
Today’s guest blogger
is the brilliant Randy Gage.
It is better to have a permanent income than to be fascinating.
Sage advice from Oscar Wilde. And nowhere in the world can you set up a better conduit for residual income than Network Marketing. But to do that, you can’t be a superhero. True residual comes from following a system, and training your people to do the same.
Sometimes that means curbing your ego. Sometimes it means passing up on things that could work well for you, but not be duplicated by others.
If you have true duplication and residual income, it means your people also have duplication and have the same opportunity as you. And that’s what makes our business better than any other in the world!

Cause & Effect or Your Plan & Your Dream
You know the old riddle: How many therapists does it take to change a light bulb?
Only one, but the light bulb has to really want to change.
My mentor Tom ‘Big Al’ Schreiter preaches and teaches that there are only three things we need to do in order to be successful in any MLM business:
1. Learn what to say – Learn how to speak ‘commercially’.
2. Find people to talk to.
3. Take the volunteers.
I translate that third precious nugget of advice to mean this: Take the ones who really want to change, the ones who really want to control their lives, own their lives and live their dreams.
Two questions:
1. What’s your dream?
2. What’s your plan to cause it?
Cause and Effect = the Law of the Universe. Whatever you have now, however you are living now, is the effect caused by some plan or way of thinking on your part. If you haven’t given much thought to it, then you probably don’t have much in the way of your dream.
Your dream is the Effect, your thinking and planning is the Cause.
