  • Top 10 GMO Foods To Avoid – from the Activist Post

This article is from the Activist Post Blog and was written by Elizabeth Renter.

It’s important to note that steering clear from these foods completely may be difficult, and you should merely try finding other sources than your big chain grocer.

If produce is certified USDA-organic, it’s non-GMO (or supposed to be!) Also, seek out local farmers and booths at farmer’s markets where you can be ensured the crops aren’t GMO.

Even better, if you are so inclined: Start an organic garden and grow them yourself.

Top 10 Worst GMO Foods for Your GMO Foods List

    1. Corn: This is a no-brainer. If you’ve watched any food documentary, you know corn is highly modified. “As many as half of all U.S. farms growing corn for Monsanto are using genetically modified corn,” and much of it is intended for human consumption. Monsanto’s GMO corn has been tied to numerous health issues, including weight gain and organ disruption.

    2. Soy: Found in tofu, vegetarian products, soybean oil, soy flour, and numerous other products, soy is also modified to resist herbicides. As of now, biotech giant Monsanto still has a tight grasp on the soybean market, with approximately 90 percent of soy being genetically engineered to resist Monsanto’s herbicide Roundup. In one single year, 2006, 96.7 million pounds of glyphosate was sprayed on soybeans alone

    3. Sugar: According to NaturalNews, genetically-modified sugar beets were introduced to the U.S. market in 2009. Like others, they’ve been modified by Monsanto to resist herbicides. Monsanto has even had USDA and court-related issues with the planting of it’s sugarbeets, being ordered to remove seeds from the soil due to illegal approval.

    4. Aspartame: Aspartame is a toxic additive used in numerous food products, and should be avoided for numerous reasons, including the fact that it is created with genetically modified bacteria.

    5. Papayas: This one may come as a surprise to all of you tropical-fruit lovers. GMO papayas have been grown in Hawaii for consumption since 1999. Though they can’t be sold to countries in the European Union, they are welcome with open arms in the U.S. and Canada.

    6. Canola: One of the most chemically altered foods in the U.S. diet, canola oil is obtained from rapeseed through a series of chemical actions.

    7. Cotton: Found in cotton oil, cotton originating in India and China in particular has serious risks.

    8. Dairy: Your dairy products contain growth hormones, with as many as one-fifth of all dairy cows in America are pumped with these hormones. In fact, Monasnto’s health-hazardous rBGH has been banned in 27 countries, but is still in most US cows. If you must drink milk, buy organic.

9 and 10. Zucchini and Yellow Squash: Closely related, these two squash varieties are modified to resist viruses.

The dangers of some of these foods are well-known. The Bt toxin being used in GMO corn, for example, was recently detected in the blood of pregnant women and their babies. But perhaps more frightening are the risks that are still unknown.

With little regulation and safety tests performed by the companies doing the genetic modifications themselves, we have no way of knowing for certain what risks these lab-created foods pose to us outside of what we already know.

The best advice: steer clear of them altogether.

    You’re On Your Own

Wonderful article online yesterday saying that relying on solutions from Washington may create a worse economic situation by encouraging many to believe politicians will take action to help you get ahead.  The danger is that such a belief may make it less likely you will take the necessary action to improve your economy.

If politicians and policy wonks were really honest – image calling for honesty from Washington! – they would be telling us: You’re on your own. Face it: the government is broke and dysfunctional and was never designed to be our nanny, sugar daddy or any other relative.  The grand American experiment, as the Europeans have called our country and its constitution, was set up to have as little government as possible.

Remember Jefferson: “The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield, and government to gain ground.”? Remember Don’t Tread On Me?

But I digress. The best advice is to forget any new policies designed to make the economy more “fair” and instead learn to be more self-sufficient.  And the trick according to this article is to figure out what you can do to make yourself more employable. Though I would suggest more entrepreneurial.

Doing either implies understanding a few things, most natably “a decline in economic mobility, which means it’s getting harder for people to boost their earnings, move up the socioeconomic ladder and improve their living standards.”

Like it or not, we ARE living in not only a brave new world but a new economy too so pay attention to three key elements all of which YOU control.

    • Education
    • Technology
    • Attitude

Education – is your training outdated?  If so go take some classes, get new skills. No excuses.

Technology – are you familiar with most of it? I know it changes rapidly BUT THAT”S the point! Those who are up to date on it and whose jobs depend on digital “know how” have a clear advantage. Don’t know how to do something? Google it!

Attitude – what’s your voice sound like and your body language saying? Need I say more?

Relying too much on others, especially the government, has contributed to the economic mess we are in. Realizing that things have changed, and not for the better, is certainly a rude awakening from the prosperous pre-2008 economy. Understanding that just showing up for work won’t cut it right now is just the beginning. All that is not enough.

You are at a crossroads. Address those three key elements listed above or sink into deeper dependency.

The jury on the Grand American Experiment is still out but I’m hopeful because despite all the difficulties, people are STILL dying to get into our country. Do they know something you have forgotten: It is up to you.

    Yup. We’re on our own.

  • A Failure of Leadership?

“If you got a business, you didn’t build that. You got help.”
~ President Obama, July 13, 2012 Roanoke, VA

So the President credits the government for any successes.
Does Mr. Obama blame the government when businesses fail too?

It is a fair question, isn’t it?

  • Going Out Of Business – The Mayans Were Right

Just heard this morning on Varney & Co. that for every $1.00 gotten from the American taxpayers, Amtrak – the government run railroad – spends $1.60.

That is, $1.00 IN and $1.60 OUT.

At this rate any real business would be out of business in a short time.

But not the government. The government never goes out of business, so the government never has to worry about how much it spends or on what it spends.

It never has to worry about getting its hands on more money either. It just picks our pockets for more. It just raises taxes!

The real problem is not even this. The real problem is that not enough Americans realize this. They, the American idle, are too worried about who will be the new judge on American Idol.

Just how in the world did the Mayans know all this was going to happen?

  • Wealth vs. Money

    Wealth is NOT necessarily money.

Wealth is a standard of living, it is how weal you are able to live.

Confusion of the two can cause extreme unhappiness.

MLM Motivation: Why I Do This

Here’s one reason I do MLM – Time Freedom:

Being in business for myself allows me the time to take my 90-year old dad to Old Timers’ Day at Yankee Stadium.

And yes, he REALLY did see Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig play!

Think You Don’t Create Your Own Reality?

Here’s a video from FTF Films on Victim Mentality.
So if you could reverse that and create a Victor Mentality instead, would you?

It would require taking responsibility for your circumstances right now and resisting the temptation to blame parents, the economy, the government, a spouse, a lover, etc.

You would be creating your Life. Are you up to it?

  • MLM & QALY

Okay, we all know that MLM = Multi-Level Marketing but how about QALY?

Thanks to President Obama, and now more recently Chief Justice Roberts, we Americans will have to become very familiar with this new acronym.

The quality-adjusted life years measurement (the ‘QALY’) is a standardized measurement used in publicly funded healthcare systems, such as in Great Britain, to determine how modern medical care will be doled out. Here’s a quote from the url:  http://www.nice.org.uk/newsroom/features/measuringeffectivenessandcosteffectivenesstheqaly.jsp

“With the rapid advances in modern medicine, most people accept that no publicly funded healthcare system . . . can possibly pay for every new medical treatment which becomes available. The enormous costs involved mean that choices have to be made.

“It makes sense to focus on treatments that improve the quality and/or length of someone’s life and, at the same time, are an effective use of . . . resources.

“To ensure our judgements are fair, we use a standard and internationally recognised method . . .  the quality-adjusted life years measurement (the ‘QALY’).”

     Allow me to translate.

If you are 80 years old and need a hip replacement a calculation will be made to determine the number of quality years you have left. When it is determined that number is too low, you very likely may be denied the resources, which may go to a 30 year old determined to have more quality years left. That will not make you happy.

But what if that 30 year old is an illegal immigrant?

This is the New World that Obama and Roberts have created. Perhaps if Pelosi and the others had read the bill before voting on it, and if it had been called a tax, the vote might have come out differently. But that did not happen and we are now faced with a two-tier system: the wealthy will be able to get any and all healthcare they need and the rest of us will all be in the same boat, scratching for what resources the “experts” have and have calculated we deserve based on how many years of “quality life” we have left. ~ “Sorry you 80 year old, no hip replacement for you. You’ll have to spend the rest of your life in a wheelchair.”

Seinfeld’s Soup Nazi was funny, Obama’s healthcare Nazis will not be.

I do not like to present a problem without suggesting a solution. So what to do?

    1.  Stay healthy. Stop eating garbage that some are trying to pass off as food.
    2. Get off the couch and MOVE. Your body is designed to MOVE. Forego the wheelchair and flip the healthcare Nazis the bird.
    3. Take supplements. Even the better food may be nutritionally deficient.
    4. Become as wealthy as you can. Get past any mental barriers about that.
    5. Consider network marketing or MLM. It is as simple as what you have been doing since you were five years old but you haven’t been getting paid for it. It is time you changed that.
