  • A Failure of Leadership?

    “If you got a business, you didn’t build that. You got help.”
    ~ President Obama, July 13, 2012 Roanoke, VA

    So the President credits the government for any successes.
    Does Mr. Obama blame the government when businesses fail too?

    It is a fair question, isn’t it?

  • Going Out Of Business – The Mayans Were Right

    Just heard this morning on Varney & Co. that for every $1.00 gotten from the American taxpayers, Amtrak – the government run railroad – spends $1.60.

    That is, $1.00 IN and $1.60 OUT.

    At this rate any real business would be out of business in a short time.

    But not the government. The government never goes out of business, so the government never has to worry about how much it spends or on what it spends.

    It never has to worry about getting its hands on more money either. It just picks our pockets for more. It just raises taxes!

    The real problem is not even this. The real problem is that not enough Americans realize this. They, the American idle, are too worried about who will be the new judge on American Idol.

    Just how in the world did the Mayans know all this was going to happen?

  • MLM & QALY

    Okay, we all know that MLM = Multi-Level Marketing but how about QALY?

    Thanks to President Obama, and now more recently Chief Justice Roberts, we Americans will have to become very familiar with this new acronym.

    The quality-adjusted life years measurement (the ‘QALY’) is a standardized measurement used in publicly funded healthcare systems, such as in Great Britain, to determine how modern medical care will be doled out. Here’s a quote from the url:  http://www.nice.org.uk/newsroom/features/measuringeffectivenessandcosteffectivenesstheqaly.jsp

     “With the rapid advances in modern medicine, most people accept that no publicly funded healthcare system . . . can possibly pay for every new medical treatment which becomes available. The enormous costs involved mean that choices have to be made.

     “It makes sense to focus on treatments that improve the quality and/or length of someone’s life and, at the same time, are an effective use of . . . resources.

     “To ensure our judgements are fair, we use a standard and internationally recognised method . . .  the quality-adjusted life years measurement (the ‘QALY’).”

     Allow me to translate.

     If you are 80 years old and need a hip replacement a calculation will be made to determine the number of quality years you have left. When it is determined that number is too low, you very likely may be denied the resources, which may go to a 30 year old determined to have more quality years left. That will not make you happy.

     But what if that 30 year old is an illegal immigrant?

     This is the New World that Obama and Roberts have created. Perhaps if Pelosi and the others had read the bill before voting on it, and if it had been called a tax, the vote might have come out differently. But that did not happen and we are now faced with a two-tier system: the wealthy will be able to get any and all healthcare they need and the rest of us will all be in the same boat, scratching for what resources the “experts” have and have calculated we deserve based on how many years of “quality life” we have left. ~ “Sorry you 80 year old, no hip replacement for you. You’ll have to spend the rest of your life in a wheelchair.”

     Seinfeld’s Soup Nazi was funny, Obama’s healthcare Nazis will not be.

     I do not like to present a problem without suggesting a solution. So what to do?

    1.  Stay healthy. Stop eating garbage that some are trying to pass off as food.
    2. Get off the couch and MOVE. Your body is designed to MOVE. Forego the wheelchair and flip the healthcare Nazis the bird.
    3. Take supplements. Even the better food may be nutritionally deficient.
    4. Become as wealthy as you can. Get past any mental barriers about that.
    5. Consider network marketing or MLM. It is as simple as what you have been doing since you were five years old but you haven’t been getting paid for it. It is time you changed that. The Trap of Social Media Noise

    ‘I quote others to better express myself.’

    So the saying goes. And since I couldn’t say any better what Seth Godin has to say about the noise of social media, I’ll borrow his words. Enjoy it.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The Trap Of Social Media Noise
    If we put a number on it, people will try to make the number go up.
    Now that everyone is a marketer, many people are looking for a louder megaphone, a chance to talk about their work, their career, their product… and social media looks like the ideal soapbox, a free opportunity to shout to the masses.
    But first, we’re told to make that number go up. Increase the number of fans, friends and followers, so your shouts will be heard. The problem of course is that more noise is not better noise.
    In Corey’s words, the conventional, broken wisdom is:
    Follow a ton of people to get people to follow back
    Focus on the # of followers, not the interests of followers or your relationship with them.
    Pump links through the social platform (take your pick, or do them all!)
    Offer nothing of value, and no context. This is a megaphone, not a telephone.
    Think you’re winning, because you’re playing video games (highest follower count wins!)
    This looks like winning (the numbers are going up!), but it’s actually a double-edged form of losing. First, you’re polluting a powerful space, turning signals into noise and bringing down the level of discourse for everyone. And second, you’re wasting your time when you could be building a tribe instead, could be earning permission, could be creating a channel where your voice is actually welcomed.
    Leadership (even idea leadership) scares many people, because it requires you to own your words, to do work that matters. The alternative is to be a junk dealer.
    The game theory pushes us into one of two directions: either be better at pump and dump than anyone else, get your numbers into the millions, outmass those that choose to use mass and always dance at the edge of spam (in which the number of those you offend or turn off forever keep increasing), or
    Relentlessly focus. Prune your message and your list and build a reputation that’s worth owning and an audience that cares.
    Only one of these strategies builds an asset of value.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    The noisy chatter of a cocktail party or the one-on-one conversation of focused individuals? You choose.

  • What Sort of Life Do You Lead?

    I have written and had published about 35 articles now at http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Tony_Lauria. Most of these are about Network Marketing and what it takes to succeed in that arena but a few delve into personal development, most especially addressing the nature of Leadership.

    One of the most interesting things to see is that those few pieces on Leadership outdraw the ones on MLM by as much as ten times!

    Yesterday one of my coaches said she was not at all surprised at this and saw it as vindication of the deep hunger we are experiencing for true leaders. And certainly not just in Network Marketing but as a whole, nationally and globally.

    The world seems to be in retreat in the face of this leadership vacuum.

    What can be done?

    Please reread the title of  this and notice that it does not ask what sort of life you live. To my thinking and hearing, THAT question would suggest passivity, things coming as they may. Or not.

    To question what life you are leading paints a word picture of a much different sort, one where the individual Being is out front and all else about that Being following in accord.

    Which picture do you prefer? Which better describes Your situation and practice?
