Economies: Easier To Destroy Than To Build
If someone were evil enough to set out to destroy an economy, it would be quite simple to do – just destroy the producing class, that group of individuals who create products and services. The group that CREATES wealth.
If one were evil enough and short-sighted enough to want to destroy an economy, it would be simple. All they would have to do is alchemically make zeroes appear on computer monitors, masquerading as “money” but not representing any work done by human beings.
The result would be inflation as the paper “money” would be worthless and would put the next several generations of humans into a sea of debt with no prospect of every seeing dry land. This “tax” would thus complete the task of destroying any ambition or desire to produce, and the creation of real wealth, backed by human energy and intellect, would cease.
If one wanted to destroy an economy it would be quite elementary – reward those who only consume and do not produce and punish those who produce and save.
Only when Human energy and intellect, that is Work, is valued once again and not taxed into oblivion will Wealth Creation return to us.
It took roughly two hundred years to create an economy the size of which the world had never seen and now roughly one generation to destroy it.
It is always much easier to destroy than to build.

Wealth Cannot Be Printed, Only Created or Produced By Work
Money is not real. It is an abstraction, a representation of something that is real.
Very Real.
Money represents human work, human energy. Money represents human life.
But when printed indiscriminately it represents nothing and only cheapens human work.
And human life.

The Spiritual Basis of Money
This blog is about responsible wealth. During its brief time online I’ve received a few emails asking why I have written about money and coupled it with spirit.
Though there are several posts explaining why, I’d like to expand on that reason.
There is a spiritual basis of all being. I am not saying God or Jehovah or Allah or a god or goddess or any other personality. I am saying a spiritual basis of all being, which includes ideas and principles because they exist just as much as you and I do.
If you prefer to work from the bottom up, then we can call it The Ground of All Being. If you prefer the top down, then it is the Source from which all that exists emanates.
Money falls under that umbrella or grows from that ground because it exists and must therefore have a spiritual component.
Money, as I’ve written, is an abstraction and a symbol for work, or energy expended. Or for energy yet to be expended.

When money is backed by a precious metal such as gold, silver or copper, as it had been for thousands of years of human history, the value of a currency is backed by the human work needed to extract those metals from the earth and refine them.
The currency that is in circulation represents the energy already expended by human beings (free or slave labor is not the issue here right now). Muscle, sinew, heart and lungs are the issue because it is they which make the wealth represented by money both responsible and rooted in spirit.
The existence of paper money is not the issue either because at one time it was printed ONLY when there was sufficinet precious metal on hand to warrant its printing. In other words, it was printed AFTER the energy had been expended. The wealth had been actually created by the human work done.
Such money was still respectful and responsible to the human effort required to create it. Why? Because it was responsibly created based on the wealth of human effort expended to create its value.
Let me repeat that: Money created by human sweat, blood and lives gives it its intrinsic value. The precious metals backing it only represent that effort and those lives. The metals are as symbolic as the paper is.
The trouble and danger that visit human societies throughout history do so when it is decided to print paper money THAT IS NOT BACKED BY METAL ON HAND, OR IN OTHER WORDS, NOT BACKED BY HUMAN LIVES AND ENERGY.
Such “money” is essentially an imaginative fabrication, a trick, a canard, a ruse to create the impression of wealth. This money is called Fiat Currency – and should more accurately be called Fiasco Currency, because that has always been the result where it has been printed.
Money that is printed without any backing of value consisting of human work effort is based on a future promise to provide some value.
A PROMISE TO PROVIDE IT IN THE FUTURE. A PROMISE.
Honestly, do you believe that promise will be kept?
Don’t you feel better about paying for your meal in a restaurant, a job done by a contractor or technician, care provided by a doctor or dentist AFTER THE WORK’S BEEN DONE OR SERVICE PROVIDED?
In these commercial/societal arrangements both parties are “kept honest” by payment being provided AFTER RESPONSIBLE ACTIONS OF VALUE HAVE BEEN DELIVERED OR PROVIDED.
And if you think I have fallen into one political camp or the other, pick your head up and see a bigger picture. The politics are created AFTER in order to justify the decisions made.
“Money” being printed now, or more accurately conjured up now, is based on a promise that our children, grandchildren, great grandchildren will have to make good on.
Has there ever been a more exquisitely disguised form of slavery then the one in force right now?
Has there ever been a more irresponsibly created currency desecrating current and future human lives?
Is there any question why the world needs responsible wealth now more than ever?

“See, all that money can’t save you.”
Carmine DeSalvo died this morning at 3am.
He was a friend of my father’s, my 89-year old father.
I remember Mr. DeSalvo vividly. He was brash but generous. He gave me one of those model airplane kits when I was about 10 years old and he was the owner of a small neighborhood deli shop – one of his many businesses on the way to becoming a fairly successful small business owner.
My father when he broke the news: “See, all that money can’t save you.”
Now behind that belief and sentiment is this:
some people believe money CAN save their life and since it obviously can’t – we all DO die, don’t we – then why should one ever pursue money?
The payoff, pardon my pun, of such a rationale is to get one’s self off the hook of making money, of being industrious, of being productive TO ONE’S FULLEST CAPACITY.
It gives one a rationale and excuse for being poor and lazy at the very worst.
“Make just enough to get by because if you ever DO overreach, your hand will be slapped by the big phantom in the sky and you’ll be rewarded with death.”
Obviously, rationally, WE ARE ALL GOING TO MEET DEATH, regardless of how much money we create in life. There simply is no correlation, no real connection between how much money one makes and how long one has on the planet.
So why not make all you can while you ARE here?
Just don’t lie, cheat or steal anyone’s labor or ideas in the process of maximizing your earning potential.
Simply pursuing money should NEVER be the object.
Rather doing what gives you joy AND provides and contributes to others, where you CAN BE and while you ARE compensated to the greatest extent, should be.
“See, all that money can’t save you.” Who ever believed that it would?

Be in order to Have = BeHave
We all know the problems people have with money - Not enough or too much can get us in trouble.
And how much of our human weaknesses are blamed on money: Divorce - Criminal activity - Acts of Self-destruction – as well as misplaced faith in its ability to save us. For too many Rich is a Religion.
Look closer though. The problem is never the money itself. The problem is what human beings DO to make or get the money – or believe it can DO for them.
The “problem” is human behavior. I’ll take a liberty with our language and say that the trouble is how we sometimes believe we must ‘Be’ in order to ‘Have’ the money we need.
In other words, the problem is how we BeHave, if you’ll pardon the liberty.

The Nature of Money on Independence Day
On the Better Networker site I received an email from a woman who has recently become interested in money and the Federal Reserve System.
Here is part of my reply to her:
I have been fascinated with just exactly ‘what money is’ for over twenty years. There is a very ‘real’ spiritual side to it and I don’t mean religious. I mean there is a spiritual animation behind it, both good and evil, which is to be expected since money is a creation of human beings and we carry the potential for both in each of us.
The Fed system confirms this, if not consciously and purposefully then accidentally. A system that controls money controls the people who create the money – and I don’t mean PRINT the money, I mean CREATE the money.
The only honest way to CREATE money is to expend ENERGY, that is, to WORK. So a system that controls money is controlling human work, human energy or human lives. Isn’t it?

Money-When It Is Profane Part 4
In business, in a relationship, in any aspect of life, when someone focuses ONLY on money – removing all Life & Energy from their Intent and focus of Attention – they are committing an act of profanity.
Money = Energy = Life
This equation, and more importantly the understanding of it, is what makes Money sacred.
Abrogate the implicit wisdom of it, break the equation, and Money becomes profane.
We are each of us born with specific talents that we are each responsible for discovering, developing and using to solve problems for ourselves and others. In other words, TO SERVE.
And in return for your service to yourself and others, in return for loving others as you love yourself, you receive more Life or Energy – in the form of Money.
Isolate anything too much and it becomes profane.
Commit any act to acquire Money only, without regard to replenishment, and it is a Crime.
Want more Money? Serve more people. Solve more problems.
Want millions? Serve millions. Solve the problems of millions.
Take their Money without serving and you’re a Criminal.
Too simplistic? Go back & read it again . . .
. . . in return for your service to yourself and others, in return for loving others as you love yourself, you receive more Life or Energy – in the form of Money.

Money – Its Metaphysical Nature-Part 3
Money is not matter. To believe that it is, is to shackle yourself to it.
Money is not material. When people call others who are money-conscious “materialists”, they couldn’t be more wrong.
Money is as insubstantial as one can imagine. It is a shadow of the material world, cast by human activity.
Because Money stands in as a substitute for human energy, there is a sacred quality to it. This uncommon appreciation of Money renders the belief that it is evil, or the root of evil, utterly ridiculous. If one believes Money is inherently evil then the required equivalent belief is that human life is inherently evil.
Money can never be evil. Only human activities to secure it can be. Consider, for the sake of brevity, that there are two ways to obtain Money.
The first is to provide goods or services to others and in exchange you get either other goods and services - barter - or an agreed upon medium of exchange - Money. Either way value flows in both directions.
Now consider the second way. Goods or services are promised. Money is exchanged but the promise is never kept. Or worse, Money is simply taken with no regard to either goods or services. Now we have a crime.
Money is never evil and since it represents a repository of human life, sweat and toil, it possesses a sacred dimension that humanity is virtually unconscious of.

Money – What’s It Worth To You?-Part 2
In the 1948 classic film, THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE, about gold and greed and what it does to men, directed by John Huston and starring Humphrey Bogart and the director’s father Walter Huston, this question is asked: Why is gold worth whatever it is an ounce?
Howard, played by Walter Huston, explains: “A thousand men, say, go searching for gold. After six months, one of ‘em is lucky – one out of the thousand. His find represents not only his own labor but that of nine hundred and ninety-nine others to boot. That’s uh, six thousand months or five hundred years scrabbling over mountains, going hungry and thirsty. An ounce of gold, mister, is worth what it is because of the human labor that went into the finding and the getting of it. . . . Gold itself ain’t good for nothin’ except makin’ jewelry with and gold teeth.”
Gold is “good for nothin’ ” but Gold in those days WAS money. All paper currency used to be backed by a precious metal, usually gold or silver, and was printed only under the conditions that the metal be on hand physically in a vault somewhere in the country. The currency had printed on it GOLD or SILVER CERTIFICATE and was able to be exchanged for the equivalent amount of metal at any bank. This lasted until President Roosevelt closed the “gold window”. Much later President Nixon took the dollar off the gold standard. It’s open to debate which was the bigger crime.
But I don’t mean to dwell on the economics or the politics of the situation. I wish to remain on the symbology and metaphysics of money, using this bit of film dialogue to illustrate this point:
Gold has been money for thousands of years and its value has always been determined by its scarcity which translates into the amount of human energy (labor) expended into its discovery, recovery and the physical work done to or on it.
Money is a symbol for human work-energy-life. It doesn’t take much of a stretch to understand that one’s attitude towards life in general is pretty equivalent to one’s attitude towards money. And vice versa.

Money-Metaphysically Speaking Part 1
Along with sex and religion, many of us were told not to talk about money or how much of it we earn. Isn’t that kind of silly? But there is a reason for it. You may even discern it yourself as we go along.
We were all taught the usual in school, that money is a medium of exchange. And that’s where it usually ended because most want to just get on with getting as much of it as possible. But haven’t you ever wondered what money really is?
Well, to start with, money isn’t real. It’s an abstraction, a symbol and symbols stand for something. So here’s what money stands for: work. Money is a symbol of work that has been done or a promise of work to be done. Since work symbolizes energy expended, in the past or the future, we can say that work = energy = money.
Money is the link between many polarities among them physical matter and energy.
Money is Energy. Since it is energy-work finished (past) or promised (future) it is somehow coalesced or congealed.
Money is Congealed Energy, Coalesced Energy. That’s what makes it have such peculiar attributes. It’s quasi-matter and quasi-energy. Both sacred and profane at the same time too.
Consider: you have an idea, you expend the energy necessary and your result is a physical object or a physical task. If you can deliver either to someone one of your rewards is MONEY. And the money paid to you is the result of that person’s energy having been expended. And so on and so on and so on.
