MLM Motivation: Why I Do This

Here’s one reason I do MLM – Time Freedom:

Being in business for myself allows me the time to take my 90-year old dad to Old Timers’ Day at Yankee Stadium.

And yes, he REALLY did see Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig play!

OMG, How I Love the Internet!

I mean there I was just a few hours ago unaware of an entire blog and a group of outstanding and outrageous people. By way of an email I discovered Adam Baker and his most impressive and inspiring site:

ManVsDebt.com where I also found a video of  him speaking at a TED event. His topic? Asking this enormously important and timely question:

What does Freedom mean to you?

I can’t recommend it highly enough so here it is. Don’t delay, check this out now:

  • Being A Willing Fool Trumps Being Right

“Being right is not the most important thing in life.

If it was, you might as well kill yourself.  Being

willing is what counts.  If we are willing, we are

fools, as any good mind will tell you.  Exactly.

Fools rush in and learn all kinds of things angels

        will never know.” ~

                           Brad Blanton, Radical Honesty

I meditate on this tarot card frequently. Its esoteric meaning, as I was taught, depicts the human soul stepping off a cliff and tumbling into incarnation, into the physical experience. Willingly.

How beautifully that interpretation fits the words of Brad Blanton. How wise the fool is to take the plunge trusting he will land where he must. And have the experience of a lifetime.

  • Passion and the Creation of Form

Passion, or Eros as Plato called it, moves toward the creation of Form.

That is to say, things want to materialize as much as you want them to.

The Life you are passionately desiring desires you as much as you desire it.

    FEAR of Passion

I speak to many people about their ambitions and dreams and in order to sort out the window shoppers from the serious volunteers, only one question has to pass their lips for me to know who will never make it.

Want to know what that question is?

“How much work will this take?”

Translation: “I am afraid of the thing I want. I am afraid of what I say I am passionate about.”

“How much work?” = Fear of Passion

    Uncovering Your Passion

When faced with the question, “What is your life’s passion?”, many are stumped.

So many of us at one time or another have fallen into jobs or careers because of either an interest – but not a passion – or worse, others’ expectations of us.

The results? “I hate my job. I hate my life.”

Here are six simple questions to help bring you to that special place where you might just be a bit afraid to look. You probably have heard one or two of them but grab a hot drink and let these isolate what it is that lights your fire, floats your boat or just won’t leave you alone! (Don’t rush through this no matter how anxious it may make you. The best answers are the ones you may have to dig a little to get. Or just wait silently for as they bubble to the surface.)

    • You have all the money you could possibly dream of so what would you do now since money is not part of the picture?
    • If failure & all accompanying fears were also removed from the picture, what would you do?
    • When you have some free time what do you enjoy doing most?
    • What are you so good at doing that people seek you out in order to get some advice?
    • My favorite: Determine the common thread between your favorite TV shows & movies and the kinds of books & magazines you love to read.
    • What – if anything – do you enjoy doing in your current work or job?

Your passion has to be a bit like religion: it has to give or highlight a purpose that you will not easily surrender, if at all, and that you could never imagine living without. Or it just isn’t a passion.

    Inner Heart, Outer Mind

A “set definite objective” must be established if you are to accomplish anything in a big way. So says the classic of self-development, THE MESSAGE OF A MASTER. In my last post I wrote about Ilgar’s insights* regarding this: the role and workings of the human heart and the fickle nature of the human mind.

Why a “set definite objective”? According to THE MESSAGE there are reasons.

The First: The Inner Mind is the “positive pole” of a human being; the Outer Mind is the “negative”. A (+) and a (-) are needed to complete a circuit or a circle anywhere in nature or there would be NO motion, NO activity, thus NO experience. Welcome to this side of the speed of light and the Universe of Duality!

In everything that is obedient to the Law, the “Positive dominates & governs and the Negative serves. But humanity reverses this. It permits The Outer Mind to direct and govern without instruction” and so reports ‘bad news’: strife, war, obstacles, competition, “impossibilities”.

Why does it do so? Because of the absence of direction. The Outer Mind is left to wander aimlessly without PURPOSE, accepting everything and without the ability to differentiate.

The Second: “People who have no “set definite objective” are tuning in to everything and getting nothing. They are at the mercy of millions of conflicting thoughts and their lives are full of distress.” On the other hand, “People who have a “set definite objective” deliberately tune in to ONE THING. If it is money, they get it. A position, they get it. Nothing that such people tune in to can be withheld.”

The Third: “When you set your Inner Mind on anything, you transfer a portion of your Life Force to that thing or it could never be drawn to you.” The intensity of your desire/INTENTION governs the power with which the force is directed. This is part of the so-called price that must be paid.

(This is the INTENTION part of my equation INTENTION + ATTENTION = ATTRACTION.)

Continue to nourish the one Thing by holding it in your Inner Mind -> PAY INTENTION – and by taking focused, directed Action -> PAY ATTENTION your desire will manifest.

So if you are desiring or PAYING INTENTION to several objectives, entertaining more than one dream at a time, setting more than one goal, having more than one “set definite objective”, your force becomes divided and each of the several desires/dreams/goals/intentions receives an insufficient, weak stimulus. Not enough to ATTRACT any of them. Manifestation will be delayed if not altogether thwarted.

But all this can be reversed.

*Before we address that, please note that what THE MESSAGE calls the Inner Mind, Ilgar called the Heart, and the Outer Mind he simply called the Mind or Brain. You might want to read these posts again to help make this clearer: Set Your Heart & Your Mind Will Follow and Attraction = Intention + Attention.

The Aphorism Salon – Aspiring to Inspire

img_0653-window-ornaments3In an earlier post entitled, “LIFE IS TOUGH. . . IT’S EVEN TOUGHER WHEN YOU’RE IGNORANT”, I wrote about the shop window displaying a whiteboard sharing such aphorisms. The owner of the shop, actually a hair salon, is John, a stocky, handsome man who set himself free from the “nightmare of living” to find the “joy of life”.

Our conversation was rich in wisdom. These bullets highlight some of what John has shared with me:

    • “Look how miserable people seem. They walk around with a nightmare on their faces. They engage in competitive suffering. Listen to them: ‘You think you got it bad . . .'”
    • “I was miserable once too. Bad marriage. There was love there but just because you love someone doesn’t mean they’re right for you. Maybe they’re not brining the best out of you.”

After an amicable divorce John sought his freedom. And joy.

    • “You have to create your own happiness. It’s not handed to you. It’s a decision you have to make.”
    • “You have to create your life. The way you desire it to be.”

I asked him where he found the brilliant aphorisms he posts, changing them about once a week in his salon window. “Here and there. From many sources. Wisdom is everywhere. You just have to look.”

    • “To get what you want, help others get what they want.”
    • “The more people you help get what they desire, the faster you’ll have your desires fulfilled.”

So here’s your invitation to visit this site regularly for more from John’s Aphorism Salon. Let me know what you think, like or don’t like. Thanks!

    Life Has No Purpose

The late, great mythologist Joseph Campbell played a large role informing my psychological and intellectual life. There is only one thing I heard him say that has ever taken me by surprise: “Life has no purpose.”

Not sitting well in my attempts to put together the many thoughts and things then going on in my life, I have never forgotten it and over the years have thought quite a bit about the idea that life is meaningless. Plus it just didn’t fit what Campbell was all about.

With a few more grey hairs and a whole lot more experience, I’m pretty sure now what the professor meant.

Life by itself, without any moving, profound experience of it by the individual living it, has no purpose.

Said another way: Life means whatever we desire it to mean through the experiences we choose to have of it and if we have no desire driving us, no passion pushing us, it is meaningless and devoid of purpose.

Therein lies the urgency to find a driving, burning, consuming life’s desire – or yours will have no purpose. Joseph Campbell also famously said: “Follow your bliss.”  Was he playing The Trickster after all?

In my next post I’ll borrow from a mentor something I recently heard on how to craft a purpose and give life meaning.

    Attraction = Intention + Attention

I get asked frequently why I use the word INTENTION and ATTENTION when most people who speak of this subject usually just use the word ATTRACTION.

There is a very good reason.

The Law of Attraction (LOA) is an inviolable law of the universe: Whatever thought or image a person keeps and nourishes with emotion will manifest.

Now most who hear this believe that if they really, really, really want something it will >POP< appear by magic. Sorry. To be kind, this is naive. A bit more is required.

We live in a world of duality. Up & Down. Right & Left. On & Off. Polar opposites.

There is NEVER one without the other. We can’t ever have a Right without a Left because in truth, polarities are points on a Continuum.

One of the more dynamic of these polarities is Inside & Outside. Where does your Inside stop? At the tip of your nose? And your Outside? Somewhere in Infinity? If so, where?

You desire something and you set your Heart on it. You dwell on it. Dream about it. Imagine how you’ll FEEL when it manifests.  Good.  Your Intent is in place. Your internal settings are good to go. But is that all? Is something else needed?

What are you ATTENDING to? What is your ATTENTION on? To what is your Mind bending? Where and on what will your actions be directed and focused?

You see the “opposite pole” of Intention is Attention. Just having the right stuff going on internally is only a start. You have to take action and you must consider a direction or target for your action. To what and where in the world Outside of You are you bending your Mind and directing your Intentional force? Wherever that is, is where your Attention lies. Or should lie if you want fulfillment of  your desire.

If your Heart’s Intention and your Mind’s Attention are unbroken, in unison and focused on the same external outcome, you will ATTRACT your Desire.  The energy continuum will be complete and manifestation imminent.

If not, there’s work to be done getting these poles in synch.
